Ingredients
1 red onion, grated
2 garlic cloves, grated
A big bunch of fresh mint, finely chopped
1 large egg
Approx 100g homemade breadcrumbs
500g 10% fat pork mince
250g 5% fat beef mince
Olive oilPlenty of salt
Crushed black pepper
Flour for dredging
1 litre of cooking oil for frying
30-40 mins to prepare and cook | Yields 16 Keftedes
Method
Start by grating the onion and garlic and placing them in a bowl.
Add the chopped fresh mint, along with the egg, breadcrumbs and minced meat.
Season with olive oil, salt and pepper and mix until well combined.
Roll into evenly sized balls and dredge in some flour.
Place the oil in a large saucepan on a high heat. Once the oil is hot enough (test this out by placing a wooden spoon in the oil and seeing if the oil bubbles around it), carefully place the meatballs one by one. Cook for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown. Repeat this process with the remaining meatballs (you may have to do this 2-3 times depending on the size of the saucepan).
Once the meatballs are cooked, place them on a plate with paper towels to drain the excess oil, and enjoy whilst hot.
