Homemade Chicken Gyros

Make the best homemade chicken gyros with this easy, delicious recipe! Juicy, marinated chicken wrapped in warm pita bread with your favourite toppings—this recipe will transport you straight to Greece 🇬🇷✨

Ingredients

  • 600g boneless chicken thighs

  • 250g greek yoghurt

  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp coriander

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 heaped tsp dried oregano

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/2 red onion, halved

  • 2 long wooden skewers or kebab spike

60-70 mins to cook | Serves 4

Method

  1. Marinate the chicken thighs in all the seasonings listed above for at least 2 hours in the fridge.

  2. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius Fan. To prepare the gyros, pierce the chicken thighs on the kebab spike, one on top of the other, and top with the red onion. Coat with all the yoghurt marinade.

  3. Place gyros in the oven for 50- 55 minutes. Cook until the juices have cooked through and the top of the gyros is slightly charred.

  4. Serve with tzatziki, tomatoes, red onions and chips on a flat bread

Pro Tip💡

I recommend using the kebab spike from @thekebabspikeco or make a makeshift vertical skewer using onions as the base and then two wooden skewers
