Loukoumades - Greek Honey Donut Balls
Loukoumades are crispy Greek donut balls that are golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside! This easy recipe requires just a few simple ingredients and results in sweet, warm treats coated in honey and sesame seeds.
Ingredients
145ml temp water
5g yeast
1 tsp honey
Pinch of salt
100g all purpose flour
25g corn starch
300ml corn oil for frying
Honey and sesame seeds for coating
1 hour 40 mins to prepare and cook (including dough rising) | yields approx 20 Loukoumades
Method
Start by adding the water, yeast, honey and salt in a bowl and whisk until combined.
Add the flour to another mixing bowl and pour the wet mixture. Whisk to combine.
Cover with cling film and leave for an hour.
In a saucepan, heat up the oil over a high heat. Once it’s hot (you can tell by dipping a wooden spoon and seeing if the oil foams up), carefully place a tablespoon of the batter and repeat to fill the pan making sure not to overfill it.
Fry for 2 minutes until golden brown and remove with a sieve. Place in a bowl with kitchen roll to soak up the excess oil. Continue the process until the mixture is used up.
Once all the Loukoumades are cooked, add a few tablespoons of honey and a sprinkle of sesame seeds and toss to coat. Serve whilst warm.
